Masai Mara Gates 

Masai Mara National Reserve has various gates entrance and exit points to the most visited and sought after protected area in Kenya. Masai Mara National Reserve also known as Maasai Mara National Reserve or simply known by the locals as The Mara, is a vast savannah national park of Kenya covering over 1510 square kilometres.

Masai Mara National Reserve (Narok County ~ Sekenani, Talek, Musiara & Oloolaimutia Gates)

The Gates are approximately 85km from the nearest large town which is Narok. The reserve itself has several main entry gates, Ololomutiek, Sekenani, Talek, Sand River, Musiara or Oloololo Gate. Entry fees to Masai Mara is based on the location of the Camps and Lodges at which one is staying at in the larger reserve due to the fact that for accommodation located inside the main Reserve.

Entry Fees

Entry fees to Masai Mara is based on the location of the Camp or Lodge at which one is staying at in the Reserve. If staying at accommodation located inside the main National Reserve, during wildebeest migration the entrance fee is USD 200 per adult per 24 hours. If staying at accommodation outside the main reserve the entry fee applies the same

January - June -USD 100

July -December USD 200 per adult per 24 hours (see below chart) 

This applies to both the Narok side of the main reserve as well as Mara Conservancy in the western corridor of the Maasai Mara though Mara Conservancy note that persons under 18 years of age are also extended the child rate. In case you are wondering how much it costs to go to Masai Mara for a tour, most Masai Mara Safari packages already include the entry fee for tourists so do confirm with your tour operator.

Entry fees to Masai Mara national reserve are paid in form of US Dollars, Kenya Shillings, cashless modes- accepted using Visa, MasterCard and the local Kenyan Mpesa phone payment 

How to Pay / Mode of Payment

Payment in Cash US Dollars or Kenya Shillings is accepted at the entry gates. Cashless modes are also typically accepted and you can pay via Visa & Mastercard as well as the local Kenyan Mpesa phone payment. Citizens and Residents of Kenya are required to carry identification and proof of residence to avail of the cheaper Resident rates. Pre-Payment (obtain tickets in advance) is possible through the KAPS company located in the KATO office, Longonot Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi. 

FLY-IN Safaris payment Mode

Fly~In Safaris are the exception as the fee is usually payable upon landing. Note all information and fees listed here is subject to change without notice and should be confirmed for accuracy with the respective reserve authorities. For the Kenya National Park entry fee the official authority is the KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service)
